Amad Diallo’s late hat-trick secures Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Southampton

Ivorian forward Amad Diallo scored three goals in the final 12 minutes, overturning a deficit to lead Manchester United to a crucial win at Old Trafford.

In a dramatic Premier League encounter at Old Trafford, Manchester United triumphed over Southampton with a 3-1 scoreline, thanks to a remarkable late hat-trick by Amad Diallo.

The match began unfavorably for the Red Devils, as an own goal by midfielder Manuel Ugarte in the 43rd minute handed Southampton a 1-0 lead just before halftime.

Despite dominating possession, United struggled to break down Southampton’s defense for much of the game. It wasn’t until the 82nd minute that Diallo found the equalizer, sparking a late surge. He added a second goal in the 90th minute and completed his hat-trick in stoppage time, securing all three points for his team.

This victory propels Manchester United to 12th place in the Premier League standings, now holding 26 points from 21 matches. Conversely, Southampton remains anchored at the bottom with just six points.

Diallo’s outstanding performance not only turned the match around but also etched his name in the club’s history books. At 22 years and 189 days old, he becomes the second-youngest player to score a Premier League hat-trick for Manchester United, a record previously held by Wayne Rooney.

Despite the win, manager Ruben Amorim expressed concerns over the team’s overall performance, citing a lack of speed and efficiency in defensive transitions. He specifically mentioned the need for improvement in high pressing and defensive duties, highlighting areas where players like Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, and captain Bruno Fernandes need to adapt better.

Amorim also urged caution in heaping excessive praise on young talents like Diallo, emphasizing the importance of managing their development carefully to prevent undue pressure.

This hard-fought victory ends Manchester United’s streak of home defeats and offers a platform to build upon as they aim to climb further up the league table in the coming weeks.
