In a series of coordinated security operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Pakistan army has neutralized 30 suspected militants, intensifying efforts against insurgent activities in the region.
The military’s operations targeted the districts of Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Khyber, areas known for their strategic significance due to their proximity to the Afghanistan border. According to an official statement, 18 militants were killed in Lakki Marwat, eight in Karak, and four in Khyber. Additionally, six militants sustained injuries during these engagements. The operations also led to the seizure of weapons and ammunition from the militants, who were reportedly involved in numerous terror activities targeting both security forces and civilians in the area.
This escalation in military action comes in response to a significant surge in terrorist activities within Pakistan. In 2024, the country experienced a 40% increase in terror attacks compared to the previous year, marking it as the deadliest year in nearly a decade. Data from the Center for Research and Security Studies, an Islamabad-based think tank, indicates that there were 444 terror attacks in 2024, resulting in the deaths of 685 security personnel and 927 civilians. In response, security forces intensified their counter-terrorism efforts, eliminating 934 suspected militants over the same period.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, serving as a gateway to Afghanistan, has been a focal point for militant activities. The recent operations underscore the Pakistan army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring stability in these volatile regions. The military has reiterated its resolve to continue such operations to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
These developments highlight the ongoing challenges Pakistan faces in its fight against militancy, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan. The government’s intensified military campaigns reflect a strategic approach to counter the escalating threats and to dismantle the networks responsible for terror activities within its borders.
