Ahmed Shara has been appointed as the transitional president of Syria, marking a significant shift in the nation’s political landscape.
In a recent development, Ahmed Shara has been declared the transitional president of Syria. This announcement was made during the “Victory Conference,” which included participation from Foreign Minister Esad Hasan Şeybani and representatives of various military groups. The conference concluded with Colonel Hasan Abdulgani, spokesperson for the Directorate of Military Operations, reading the final declaration. He stated that Shara would represent Syria on international platforms during this transitional period. Additionally, the 2012 constitution has been annulled, and institutions associated with the previous regime, including the army, security agencies, and parliament, have been dissolved.
Following his appointment, Shara emphasized the importance of national unity and the reconstruction of the country. He expressed confidence that within two years, 14 million displaced Syrians would return to their homeland, leaving only about 1 to 1.5 million abroad. Shara highlighted that areas under the new administration’s control have not only retained their populations but have also attracted more residents, showcasing a model of coexistence among diverse communities.
In a show of international support, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Shara in Damascus. Fidan conveyed Turkey’s commitment to standing by the Syrian people during this transitional phase. He underscored the necessity of establishing security, upholding the rule of law, and protecting minorities in Syria. Fidan also called upon the international community to lift previous sanctions imposed on the former regime to facilitate the country’s reconstruction and the return of refugees.
The international community is closely monitoring these developments, recognizing the potential for significant changes in Syria’s political and social dynamics. The success of this transitional period is seen as pivotal for the nation’s future stability and prosperity.
