India has launched a series of missile strikes on multiple locations within Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The military action, named Operation Sindoor, was conducted in retaliation for the deadly attack on Hindu pilgrims in the Pahalgam region, where 26 civilians were killed by gunmen suspected to be part of Islamist militant groups.
According to Indian officials, the targeted strikes aimed to dismantle terror infrastructure allegedly linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad. Indian authorities emphasized that Pakistani military installations were deliberately avoided to prevent further escalation.
Pakistan denounced the strikes as an open violation of its sovereignty and claimed civilian casualties, including the deaths of three individuals and over a dozen injuries. Islamabad also reported that its air defense systems shot down two Indian aircraft that violated its airspace.
The Pakistani government has ordered a high-security alert across major cities, suspended all diplomatic channels with India, and mobilized additional troops near the Line of Control in anticipation of further hostilities.
