Brazilian left-back Marcelo, who secured 25 titles during his tenure with Real Madrid, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36.
Marcelo began his professional career with Fluminense in Brazil before transferring to Real Madrid in 2007. Over 15 years with the Spanish giants, he amassed an impressive collection of silverware, including five UEFA Champions League titles, six LaLiga championships, four FIFA Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, two Copa del Rey titles, and five Spanish Super Cups.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Marcelo stated, “My journey as a player ends here, but I still have so much to give to football. Thank you for everything.”
Following his departure from Real Madrid in 2022, Marcelo had brief stints with Olympiacos in Greece and a return to Fluminense. He concluded his illustrious career with his boyhood club, Fluminense, where he added the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana titles to his achievements.
On the international stage, Marcelo earned 58 caps for Brazil, contributing to their 2013 Confederations Cup victory.
Marcelo’s retirement marks the end of a remarkable era for a player celebrated for his skill, leadership, and numerous contributions to both club and country.
