Hamas is preparing to release four Israeli female soldiers in exchange for 200 Palestinian prisoners as part of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
On Saturday, January 25, 2025, the Gaza Strip will witness the second phase of the prisoner exchange under the current ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Hamas has announced the release of four Israeli female soldiers: Liri Albag, Karina Ariev, Danielle Gilboa, and Naama Levy. In return, Israel is set to free 200 Palestinian prisoners.
This exchange follows a similar swap conducted last Sunday, during which three Israeli women were released in exchange for 90 Palestinian prisoners. The ongoing ceasefire agreement stipulates that for each Israeli soldier released, 50 Palestinian prisoners will be freed.
In addition to the prisoner exchange, the Israeli army is expected to withdraw from areas west of the Netzarim corridor, including Rashid Street, to the east of Salah al-Din Street, southeast of Gaza City. This move aims to facilitate greater freedom of movement for Palestinians within the Gaza Strip.
The ceasefire, which began on January 19, 2025, has also allowed for the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Since its implementation, numerous aid trucks have entered the territory through key crossings, providing much-needed assistance to the population.
As the ceasefire progresses, both parties continue to navigate the complexities of the agreement, with the hope of achieving sustained peace and stability in the region.
