Trump highlights ‘great interest’ in TikTok amid potential US ban

U.S. President Donald Trump has emphasized the significant interest in TikTok as his administration seeks to facilitate its sale to an American company, aiming to address national security concerns.

On February 4, 2025, President Trump took to his Truth Social platform to state, “GREAT INTEREST IN TIKTOK! Would be wonderful for China, and all concerned.” This comment underscores the administration’s efforts to find a resolution that satisfies all parties involved.

Previously, on January 20, 2025, Trump signed an executive order delaying the enforcement of a law that mandates the Chinese-owned ByteDance to sell TikTok to a U.S. entity by April, citing national security concerns. The executive order granted a 75-day extension to facilitate negotiations for the app’s sale.

The administration has indicated that multiple American investors and companies have shown interest in acquiring TikTok. President Trump has suggested that the U.S. could potentially take a 50% stake in the platform, either through a newly proposed sovereign wealth fund or in partnership with private investors.

The future of TikTok in the U.S. remains uncertain as discussions continue. The administration is focused on ensuring that any agreement addresses national security concerns while preserving the platform’s availability to its 170 million American users.

As the April deadline approaches, the outcome of these negotiations will determine whether TikTok remains operational in the U.S. or faces a potential ban.
