Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. Vice President JD Vance met at the Munich Security Conference to deliberate on formulating a comprehensive plan to halt Russian aggression and conclude the ongoing war.
During their discussion, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the support from the United States and President Donald Trump. He emphasized the necessity for continued dialogue and collaboration to develop a strategy aimed at stopping Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We are very grateful for American support, to President Trump. We had a good conversation today, our first meeting, not the last, I am sure. And we really need to talk more, work more and prepare a plan to stop Putin and end the war,” Zelenskyy stated.
The Ukrainian leader underscored the importance of obtaining concrete security guarantees to ensure a lasting peace. He indicated that meetings with the American team would continue and looked forward to welcoming General Keith Kellogg to Ukraine for further discussions and a deeper assessment of the situation on the ground.
Vice President Vance affirmed the United States’ commitment to ending the conflict, emphasizing the goal of achieving a durable and lasting peace. He noted that the initial conversation with Zelenskyy was productive and anticipated further discussions in the coming days, weeks, and months.
This meeting followed separate phone calls by President Trump with both Putin and Zelenskyy, aiming to facilitate negotiations to end the war. A subsequent meeting was arranged in Munich, where Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg were designated to lead the talks.
Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s readiness to move swiftly towards a genuine and guaranteed peace, highlighting the country’s appreciation for President Trump’s determination to help stop the war and secure justice and security guarantees for Ukraine.
The ongoing dialogue between U.S. and Ukrainian officials reflects a concerted effort to develop a strategic plan to end the conflict, with a focus on securing tangible security assurances and establishing a sustainable peace in the region.
